Saturday’s PIAA championship updates

District 3 champ Reading (32-1) won the state boys’ Class 6A title in overtime, 63-56 over D12 winner Roman Catholic (27-4) to wrap up the 2023 PIAA basketball championships.

Archbishop Wood earned a third-straight state title with a, 61-54 victory over WPIAL winner South Fayette (28-3), in the girl’s Class 5A championship. The D12 winning champs finished 25-5.

District 12 (Philadelphia Area) champ West Catholic (20-10) won its first state title with an 83-55 victory over WPIAL champ Deer Lake in the Class 3A title game.

In the first of the four games at Hershey’s Giant Center, D12 champ Landsdale Catholic (28-2) beat WPIAL runner-up Blackhawk (25-5) 53-45 to win the girl’s Class 4A basketball.
