The Elkers stifled Johnsonburg 47-33 in the first round of the Elk County Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30. The Rams will look to turn the tide tonight in Ridgway.

The Elkers’ defensive effort in that game was quite impressive - holding the Paper City boys to five second quarter points and three in the third to take control 28-14 heading to the fourth. Ridgway’s Domenic Allegretto (15), Dan Park (14), and Jack Benninger (11) all scored in double digits. Luke Zimmerman was the bright spot for the Rams scoring 12 with four three-pointers.

Ridgway fell to Elk County Catholic 35-24 in the tournament’s title game the next night but has rattled off three wins since to improve to 7-3. They started the new year with a 44-31, home win over Kane on Jan. 5, defeated visiting Cameron County 53-32 last Friday, and came back for a 50-36 win at Brockway by outscoring the Rovers 23-5 in the fourth quarter on Tuesday.

The 4-6 Rams, when they last had a full lineup, beat St. Marys 30-29 with a late Kole Asti bucket in the Holiday tournament consolation game.  With a limited line-up they opened the new year with a thrilling 43-41, home win over Smethport on a late three-pointer by Luke Zimmerman in the final seconds of overtime on Jan. 4. The sophomore guard suffered an early injury in the team’s tough 40-19 loss at St Marys on Monday.

Tonight’s game will be broadcast by WDDH – 97.5 FM – The Hound. The JV contest will start at 6 p.m.
