PUNXSUTAWNEY - The District 9 Class AA top-seed Johnsonburg Rams earned their way to the District 9 Class AA Championship game with a 10-0 five-inning semi-final win over four-seed Moniteau Thursday.
The 20-0 Rams will face 13-6, six-seed Kane in the championship being played on Memorial Day at Showers Field in DuBois. The Wolves beat seven-seed Curwensville 6-1 at Showers on Thursday.
Gabe Watts got the job done on the mound for J-burg. The senior lefty struck out seven, walked two, and gave up two hits to the Warriors to earn his sixth win of the season.
With the Rams up 2-0 after one, Camron Marciniak tripled with the bases loaded in the second with two outs to make it 5-0. He scored on a base hit by Ethan Wells. The runs came after Moniteau pitcher Branson Carson finished the Rams off with two strikeouts in the bottom of the first and two to start the second. Luke Zimmerman started the scoring spree with a double down the right field line. Marciniak came to the plate after Aiden Zimmerman and Domenic Allgretto walked to fill the bases.
The gritty Carson who was throwing in the mid 80's, escaped the third inning unscathed, but the Rams scored three in the fourth to go up 9-0. After walking Allegretto and Marciniak he was lifted after throwing 100 pitches. Warrior reliever Ray Dean walked Ethan Wells after Allegretto came home on a passed ball and Marciniak moved to third. Dalton Stahli's ground ball to third brought Marciniak home. Wells moved to third and came home on throw to second which caught Kaden Dennis stealing after he had been hit by a pitch.
Luke Zimmerman scored the 10th run in the bottom of the fifth. He walked, stole second and came home on a base hit by his brother Aiden Zimmerman to end the game.
Aiden Zimmerman opened the scoring after being hit by a pitch to start the first inning. He stole second and scored on an error allowing Allegretto to reach. Allegretto scored on a double by Marciniak making it 2-0.
