RASD May 2021

The RASD Governing Board held a public meeting on Tuesday evening to seek public comment on the Occupation Tax Elimination and the 2021-22 school budget at the monthly workshop meeting.

RIDGWAY--Only one member of the public appeared in person at the Ridgway Area School District (RASD) Governing Board monthly workshop meeting, and no members of the public attended through the teleconference option.

William Sealey expressed his approval for eliminating the Occupation Tax while renewing his objection of other taxes being charged without a new county real-estate assessment. School Board Vice-President Padriac McGrath explained that there is a possibility of "ongoing tax elimination efforts with modernization and simplification efforts to produce greater efficiency in the tax structure."

When asked by the Ridgway Record, all board members expressed that they have received numerous questions about the tax elimination, but once they explained and answered the questions, the overall general feeling is in favor of the policy. RASD Treasurer Donna Sidelinger fielded the majority of phone calls that came into the office about the Occupation Tax Elimination and indicated overwhelming support for eliminating the tax. The Full School Board will vote on the placement of the ballot for the General Election in June.
