RIDGWAY- On Thursday morning, the Elk County Salvation Army Service Center introduced Jeff and Colleen Pifer to their advisory board. The two first got involved with the Salvation Army when they lived in Punxsutawney. The couple learned how the organization operated when they helped out with Groundhog Day activities in the town. "We had a blast when we were helping," Colleen said. "It was amazing how they would take the children in and feed them, and even help them after school with their homework." The Salvation Army drew the Pifer's to the Elk County area, as the two now call Wilcox home. "We had planned a trip with the men of the Salvation Army in Punxsy for the first day of fishing at our camp that we just bought in Wilcox," Jeff said. "Three months later, we sold the camp and bought a house there." Both of them have committed themselves to giving back to their local community during their nearly eighteen years of marriage, and will continue to do so in Elk County.
