RIDGWAY-It was a cool and damp start to the Ridgway Community-Wide Yard Sale on Saturday, with the storms that would plague the event beginning about 9:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.
A little rain was not enough to stop the hardier yard sale patrons as ordinarily quiet streets were lined on both sides with cars as people sought out their favorite yard sales.
Umbrellas were balanced with one hand as the other sought our bargains in garages and tents scattered throughout Ridgway. While turnout was a bit suppressed, it was surprising to see so many cars on the backroads and streets of the Borough and Township.
"It's not a Ridgway Event without at least one day of rain" was the chant from many a yard-sale patron on Saturday as the day wore on and the rain just continued. Besides the bargains, it's also a social event in Ridgway, with neighbors and friends running into each other at sales and then hooking up for the sales and maybe getting lunch together in one of the downtown restaurants.
The next major event in Ridgway is the Strawberry Festival sponsored by the Elk County Historical Society on June 16, beginning at 4;30 p.m. and running until 7 p.m. in the parking lot of St. Leo's. Everyone is welcome to attend the largest fundraiser of the year for the Historical Society.
