RIDGWAY--Ridgway Post 208 of the American Legion celebrated five local students joining their ranks with a dinner and ceremony on Sunday at their club along Main Street.
Ridgway Area School District students Austin Geitner (United States National Guard), Kaitlyn Johnson (United States Army), Charles Keener (United States National Guard), John Waddell (United States Army), and Harry Snyder (United States Marine Corps) #SemperFi will join as members of the Armed Forces following graduation next month.
Chapter President Tom Fullem and Member Fred Peters led the ceremony on Sunday, which celebrated the amazing young people volunteering to serve their nation in the Armed Forces. A delicious dinner of chicken alfredo served with linguine was served with salads, fresh-baked breadsticks, and dessert. There were many laughs and jokes with the kids being told to eat up now as MREs (Meals-Ready-To-Eat, the standard for training forces in the military) are filling but not as good as the home-cooked meals they are used to. For many members seeing those young people just at the start of their careers in the Armed Forces brought back memories of their times in service, while for the students, it was one of their first experiences the life-long "family" they are joining when they choose to serve.
