RIDGWAY--The St. Leo Fish Derby took place on Saturday and Sunday in downtown Ridgway at the Fireman's Carnival Grounds.
While there was cold, hard cash on the line, including the elusive $1,500 tagged "Lucky Leo," this event was all about welcoming spring and the return of community activities to Ridgway after so many events and celebrations were canceled last year in the wake of COVID-19.
As of press time on Sunday evening, the "Leo" remained uncaught, but Brittany Beaver of Johnsonburg was the winner of the 50/50 drawing with a cash prize of $580.00.
Anglers caught hundreds of other fish both days of the event, which began at 6 a.m. Thanks to many generous local sponsors, three other fish were tagged with $1,000 pots, and hundreds of other fish were tagged with amounts ranging from $10-$500.
