Sr. John Frances Aiello, SSJ

Sr. John Frances Aiello, SSJ, 88, of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania, died on Dec. 3, 2012. She was in her 60th year of religious life. She was born in Johnsonburg on Sept. 1, 1924, the daughter of the late John and Frances Chirillo Aiello. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph from Holy Rosary parish in Johnsonburg on Aug. 30, 1953 and professed her final vows on Aug. 15, 1959. She celebrated her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2003. She earned a BS degree in Elementary Education from Villa Maria College in 1969 and did additional study at the University of St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri and Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut.She was Housemother for Senior Girls at St. Joseph Home for Children, prior to which she taught at St. Peter Cathedral Grade School in Erie. She also taught at St. Michael and St. Patrick schools in Erie; and St. Andrew School in Erie prior to a year of Canonical study in the mid 1950s. She taught at Blessed Sacrament School in Erie for more than 23 years and served as Convent Superior there for three years. Prior to her retirement in 2008, she did part-time clerical work at Villa Maria Elementary School and served as part-time receptionist at Heritage Apartments on the Villa Maria campus. She resided at the Villa Maria Community Living Center in Erie.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Caribardi; and brothers Joseph, Donald and Victor. She is survived by one sister, Eva Caribardi; and brothers Arthur, John, David, Robert and Ernest. She is also survived by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania. At Sister John Frances’s request, there will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the Sisters of St. Joseph Community Living Center, 5031 West Ridge Road, Erie. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Community Support Fund of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 5031 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506-1249. The Francis V.
