Soccer Showcase won’t be played at UPB

Organizers are still hoping to play the Corporate Cup Soccer Showcase that was to be played on May 17 at the University of Pitt-Bradford (UPB). The only certainty with the boys and girls games pitting Pennsylvania all-stars against their New York counterparts is it will not be played at UPB. The college has canceled all summer activities. Showcase co-organizer Kris Linderman of the Olean Soccer Club said the group is in discussions with three other venues about holding the Showcase. He said there will be a meeting on July 1 “to gauge if an event can be held with restrictions” later in July or early August.
Elk County Catholic senior Olivia Sorg and Kane senior Mason Feikls were among the area athletes selected to play in the contests. Both played in last year's games. The Pennsylvania girls won the 2019 contest 1-0 and the New York boys 4-2. The St. Marys Lady Dutch will have four representatives who also played last year. They include junior Kayla Johnson and seniors Lauren Eckert, Britney Shaw, and Kaylee Muccio. Kane senior Victoria Hallberg also played last year and is an alternate this year. Eckert was named the Keystone State MVP and Sorg earned the PA spirit award (pictured) in last year's game. St. Marys junior Vinicius Nunes will also be making a return trip. Unlike the Big 30 football game, the Showcase includes underclassmen. Johnsonburg senior Clay Zilkofski will be the first alternate for the Keystone State. He was selected to the team despite Ridgway not having a co-op team last season.
Elk County Catholic Head coach TJ Weaver will guide the PA boys. He will be joined by ECC assistant Alex O’Neil, Jack Darling of Warren, Aaron Clark of Port Allegany-Smethport, Phil Esposito of Brockway, and Warren’s Denny Flatt. The girls' team will be led by Bradford Head coach Warren Shaw. His staff includes Samantha Zimmerman of St. Marys, Bradford assistants Jim Warnick and A.J. Lucas, and David Britten of Brockway, and Jeremy Bickling of Warren.
The New York boys have won the first three games. The girls have played twice with New York winning 4-1 in 2018.
