The Ridgway Fire Department will be hosting its annual Open House tonight in the midst of Fire Prevention Week. The anticipated one-night event, held at the Fire Hall on 30 N. Broad Street, is open to residents of all ages and will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. RFD personnel, including Fire Chiefs Scott Pontious, Joe Gasbarre and Ray Imhof, will be available to answer questions and show off numerous pieces of equipment. Kid-friendly and informational handouts will be provided as well.
After signing a waiver, attendees will additionally be able to take a loop around town in one of the four fire trucks, if desired.
“The kids like the trucks,” said Frank Quattrone, a member of the RFD. “Every now and then you get a teenager, but the kids love the truck; the fire truck is a highlight.”
The Open House is dedicated to educating the public on what the Ridgway Fire Department is and what the all-volunteer staff does.
Those that are further interested, or would like to become volunteers themselves, may visit www.rfd4.org/ or www.facebook.com/RidgwayFireDept/ for more information.
“There are always applications available if someone is interested in joining,” said Quattrone. “An instructor can also answer those types of questions [at the Open House.]”
Alongside the educational elements and fire truck rides, cake and refreshments will be provided.
In the past, the Fire Department has seen approximately 75-100 eager residents come visit the fire hall during this event. It is expected that an ample amount of area residents will once again partake in the Open House this year.
“Usually there are quite a bit of people that come down,” Quattrone said, “Come and eat some cake, look at the trucks, have some refreshments and take a handout.”

The Ridgway Fire Department is made up of brave volunteers in Elk County and operates out of various stations, with the main location being 30 N. Broad Street in Ridgway.
