Ridgway edged by North Catholic in overtime

DuBOIS – At the season's onset, Ridgway senior point guard Jesse Reynolds had the added responsibility placed upon him of leading the scoring load. After Saturday's game against North Catholic, he showed he can handle that and then some. Reynolds led the Elkers with 35 points and nearly carried Ridgway to overtime singlehandedly before a late field goal gave North Catholic a 60-58 overtime win over Ridgway Saturday night at the Cardinal Classic hosted by DuBois Central Catholic High School. Reynolds was named to the All-Cardinal Classic team for his efforts. He had 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the game go to an extra period. "He really got hot," Ridgway coach Anthony Allegretto said. "He's a heck of a player. He was a leader, he was in the huddle getting everybody ready to roll."Ridgway trailed 40-24 midway through the third quarter but was able to rally to force overtime. "I told the kids I was proud of them for their efforts and not to quit," Allegretto said. "It got to a point where it really felt frustrating for them and for the coaches on the bench. It's not the end of the season so you don't have a lot of stuff in it. I'm sure they're in the same boat. You can't find anything to go to at that point. The kids were frustrated but Jesse didn't let them quit. The kids all responded, they forced some things, they got some tough shots made and Jesse got hot there. We really picked up our energy and when our energy picked up the team really responded. To get that game back into overtime, you got to be proud of them."
