Rams to field junior-laden soccer team

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg boys soccer will field an experienced and still relatively young team entering the 2011 season. “We return quite a few lettermen,” Johnsonburg coach Lance Rezmerski said. “We have three seniors this year and probably around nine or 10 juniors. A lot of experience coming back. We’re working on the basics right now. Things are going smoothly.”The junior players have been seeing significant playing time for the past two seasons since they were freshmen. Rezmerski thinks a return trip to the playoffs would be a huge boost for the team as many of them would be returning as seniors next season. “Most of these kids played a lot since their freshman year and most of them started last year,” Rezmerski said. “We return almost our entire starting team. We took our lumps last year. They’re a little older, still mostly juniors. We look to improve on last year, definitely try to go .500 and make the playoffs this year. I think that would be a huge boost for them going into next year if they can get in this year.”Entering this season, Rezmerski said the Rams hope to be able to trust each other and play within the flow of the game. “Playing as a team with the flow of the game and learning how to move as a team, work together,” Rezmerski said. “The biggest thing for any team is everybody has to be on the same page and work together. That’s what we’ve been emphasizing mostly is confidence in the guy beside you. You have to trust that he’s going to do what he’s going to do and you need to know what he’s going to do. Confidence in the guys around you.”Rezmerski said he is confident the Rams can flow with the speed of soccer on the varsity level. “Even though they’re a young team, they have a lot of playing experience,” Rezmerski said. “They know what to expect, they know how fast the game’s going to be. Just a matter of getting all the players on the same page is probably going to be the hardest thing to do. They all have experience, this is nothing new to them.”Rezmerski is assisted by Jeff Costanzo and Adam Thorwart this season on the coaching end.
