After a year of fundraising, grant writing, and numerous government meetings the updating/remodeling of the Johnsonburg Community Center Playground began on Tuesday.  After many weather delays throughout the start of the year, LandServ broke ground Tuesday on the over $140K project.
Planning for this project took most of 2018 but the final steps of the process were set in motion at the Sept. 18 Elk County Commissioners meeting. The Johnsonburg Community Center Playground Renovation Project's new bids were received after ones from a previous meeting came in well over the budget allocated for the project, $143,306. With the new bids, the Johnsonburg Community Center had built-in projects they could cancel out of and perform with volunteer labor.
The Community Center staff present at the meeting paired off individual projects and finally settled on simply resurfacing the basketball court instead of replacing it, and the bid from LandServ was the winner coming in at $100,700. The Commissioners quickly approved this contract at the Community Center's recommendation.
