Photo of the Week - Bridge construction continues

Work to replace a bridge near Ridgway on Route 3002 (Laurel Mill Road) began in early June and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is currently alerting drivers that temporary traffic signals will continue to be in operation on the job. The signals currently enforce an alternating traffic pattern.
The bridge is located on Route 3002 about two and a half miles west of Ridgway in Ridgway Township. The bridge spans Big Mill Creek and was originally built in 1939. It carries an average of almost 700 vehicles daily. Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Elk County’s structurally deficient list.
The current single-span, steel girder bridge is being replaced with a new single-span concrete structure. Work is taking place one side at a time.
