North Central hosts April monthly meeting

As the North Central Regional Planning and Development Commission monthly meeting began, Elk County Commissioner and Acting Director of North Central Matt Quesenberry asked the gathered full board to remember McKean County Commissioner Allen “Al” Pingie, who passed away on Tuesday. Pingie was a longtime member of the North Central Board and was well loved by everyone on staff and by his fellow board members, several of whom will attend his memorial service in Bradford on Saturday.
James Ritzman, deputy secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) gave a presentation to the full board on the financial and funding problems facing the Department in the years ahead.
Ritzman explained that federal funding is not guaranteed and that needs significantly outpaced available funding. Safety and guide rail upgrades are projected to cost over $820,000,000 dollars at a point where federal funding is shrinking. Twenty-seven different PennDOT projects are planned for Elk County alone in 2019.
