Minor-League All-Stars win opener

The Ridgway Minor League All-Stars opened play with a 6-5 victory over the Bradford Americans Sunday afternoon at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road. Ridgway had built a 5-1 lead entering the fifth inning before a 4-run Bradford rally tied the game in the fifth. The game remained tied until the home half of the sixth and final inning. After a flyout, Daunte Allegretto singled and moved to second on a groundout. He would move to third on a passed ball and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch to give Ridgway the 1-run win. Ridgway now advances to take on the Warren Americans at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Ridgway.Bradford opened the game with a run in the opening half-inning. Andrew Sheeler singled and would later move to third on two wild pitches. A groundout off the bat of Brent Kennedy scored Sheeler to put Bradford ahead 1-0. Ridgway answered in the bottom of the first, using plate discipline to set up the inning. Matt Dush and Allegretto both walked to start the inning. After a strikeout, Josh Thorwart also walked to load the bases. Chase Pontious hit into a fielder's choice which allowed Dush to cross home plate and tie the game at 1-all. A single from Jake Wickett scored Allegretto and put Ridgway ahead 2-1. Ridgway kept the offense moving in the second inning to extend the lead. Paul Gresco walked as did Dush to put two runners on bases. Allegretto singled home Gresco for Ridgway's third run of the game before Jake Reynolds roped a long double to left field to score both Dush and Allegretto and make the lead 5-1. Neither team scored any runs in the third or fourth innings before Bradford made its charge in the fifth. Patrick Caskey led off the inning with a single. Brent Kennedy then walked and Adam Boyer reached on an infield single to load the bases. Chris Connelly was able to coax out a walk to score Caskey. Brody Nay reached on an infield single which plated Brent Kennedy to make the score 5-3. Nate Blauser walked to score Boyer. After a fielder's choice to home, Sheeler walked to score Nay and tie the game at 5-all. Allegretto had three runs scored and also pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Dush scored two runs and Gresco had one run scored. Allegretto was 2-for-3, Reynolds, Wickett and Zack Zameroski each had his.
