Marilyn E. (Egger) Smrekar

Marilyn E. (Egger) Smrekar, 85, of Roseland Ave., Seneca, died at 4:18 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 in the Golden Living Center of Oil City. Born Sept. 28, 1927 in Ridgway, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Elizabeth Abplanalp Egger. Marilyn graduated in 1945 from Ridgway High School. She participated in various bowling leagues in Seneca. Mrs. Smrekar was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening and watching games of both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers on television. While in Ridgway, Mrs. Smrekar worked as a shipping clerk for the Elliott Company. She then worked for the National Fuel office in Oil City for 18 years, holding supervisory positions in gas measurement and also in the titles and contracts department. She was married in the St. Michael Rectory in Fryburg on Sept. 30, 1963 to Leo F. Smrekar, who survives. Also surviving are nieces and nephews including Wayne Egger of Ridgway, Nancy Bernardo of Rotunda West, Florida, Jeanne Brimmeier of Pittsburgh, Cathy Stowe of N. Carolina, Nancy O’Farrell of Austin, Texas, Carolyn Keane of Texas, and Robert Struble of Pittsburgh. A number of great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William S. Egger; and a sister, Ruth E. Struble. Friends will be received today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William E. Hastings, pastor of Seneca United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry.
