LHU Clearfield offering Marcellus Shale class

CLEARFIELD – Lock Haven University Clearfield Campus is offering an extended education class to teach those looking to work in Pennsylvania's growing gas industry. "The Marcellus Shale Industry Overview will be a 30-hour class about the geology and industry of Marcellus Shale and gas rich shale units, plus the business aspects of gas drilling. This course is designed for anyone seeking to learn more about the industry as a citizen, student, or professional," as stated in an LHU Clearfield press release."By taking the class, you will learn about the gas and drilling industry and the different jobs necessary to support it," said Matt Checchio, Marketing Director for LHU Clearfield Campus. "Students in high school could even find this to be a perfect opportunity to learn how to get started on a career in the gas and drilling industry. The education you receive can make you more employable within the industry and jobs related to the industry."The cost of the class includes all materials. It runs from Jan. 17 to Feb. 23, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. "What we have been hearing a lot about Marcellus shale development in our area is that companies are not hiring locals," said Paul McCloskey, vice president of Energy at Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation. "This class is a great first step. It's a great opportunity to get work in the oil and gas industry. I deal with Marcellus Shale every day, mainly dealing with the businesses trying to help them become educated and involved. The oil and gas industry is dynamic.
