Joseph O. Chittester

Joseph O. Chittester, age 79, of 19 Elk Ave., Ridgway, died Tuesday morning at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness. He was born March 17, 1931 in James City, son of the late Merle and Ann (Ilconich) Chittester. He married Ida F. Crate on June 18, 1955, she survives. He was a graduate of the Kane High School. He was Catholic by faith and a member of the American Legion Post #208. He had served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed by CG for 30 years.Surviving besides his wife are the following children: Michael Chittester and his wife Shirley of Meadville, Walter Chittester of Warren, David Chittester of Ridgway, Wayne Chittester of Ridgway, John Chittester and his wife Lori of Weedville, Thomas Chittester of Warren, Patrick Chittester of Chisago City, Minn., Frances Chittester of Ridgway; five grandchildren, one brother, Clyde Chittester of Pittsburgh, one sister, Anne Rose of Brockport; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Chittester Donaldson.Funeral and Committal Services for Joseph O. Chittester will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home Friday at 1 p.m. with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemens Burial Detail. Officiating will be Rev. William Braley, pastor of the Living Waters Christian Church. Burial will be in Meade Chapel Cemetery in Brookville.Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Memorials if desired can be made to the Ridgway Public Library.
