John F. Wachob

John F. Wachob, 84, of 101 Julia Street, Johnsonburg, died on Saturday morning, Nov. 13, 2010, at his residence, surrounded by his family, following a short illness.He was born March 25, 1926, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Lloyd B. and Viola Muroski Wachob.On Sept. 25, 1946, in the Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, he married Bette J. Williams, who preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2007.He was a resident of Johnsonburg all of his life, attended Johnsonburg schools and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1944. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Holy Name Society, life member of Central Hose Co., Johnsonburg-Wilcox Lions Club, of which he was a Charter Secretary, V.F.W., Johnsonburg B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 612, and a past member of Johnsonburg Rotary Club. He got great enjoyment driving a school bus for over 20 years and was instrumental in authoring the legislation establishing the first Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Day. He was a past officer and manager for Johnsonburg Knothole, past instructor for Johnsonburg Biddy Basketball and started the Green Hornets Grade School basketball team. He also loved Big Band music, especially Andre Rieu, Hawaiian music, fishing, gardening and watching movies; and he especially loved watching Johnsonburg Area High School sports and sitting on his front porch with his Old English Sheepdog, Porsche.He was a WWII Army veteran, serving as a Pvt. with the Army Air Corps. He served overseas with the 12th Communications Squadron Command. He had worked at New York & Pennsylvania Co., Sears & Roebuck Co., TV Time Foods as a territory manager, and for Paper City Bus Lines and Muccio School Transportation Service as a driver for 20 years beginning in 1984 and retiring in 2004. He also was the owner of Wachob Fundraising Specialties.He is survived by a son, William "Bill" Wachob of La Jolla, Ca.; two daughters, Cynthia L., Mrs. James DeAngelo, and Janis M., Mrs. Denny Asti, both of Johnsonburg; three grandchildren, Troy Asti and his wife, Meghann, Allyson, Mrs. Ryan Miller, and Erin, Mrs. Mike Brinkley; and two great-grandchildren, Kole Asti and Caitlyn Brinkley.Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Haberberger.A Mass of Christian Burial for John F. Wachob will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, with Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Rosary Cemetery.Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.An Elks Lodge of Sorrows Service will be conducted at the funeral home tonight at 6:45 p.m.
