First September Return Day held Monday

Staff Writer

A cool and dreary morning greeted workers arriving at the  Elk County Courthouse on Monday morning for first Return Day of September, which began at 8:30 a.m. and was presided over by Centre County Senior Judge The Honorable David E. Grine.
Shawn T. McMahon, Elk County district attorney, along with Thomas Coppolo, the assistant district attorney, brought a full docket of 77 cases to the court. The vast majority of defendants scheduled for a preliminary arraignment waived the reading of the charges at the outset, and the absence of one of the regular defense attorneys brought down the total cases to 50.
A bench warrant was issued for Maurissa Anne Curley of Fox Township, who is charged with possession of controlled substances and the use/possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as making false reports to law enforcement. Curley is advised to contact law enforcement officials immediately to avoid additional charges.
