KARNS CITY - The Ridgway Elkers put themselves in position to clinch a second-straight District 9 Large School Division with a late game defensive stop to hold on for a 19-13 win over the senior-night inspired Karns City Gremlins Friday night.
Despite three turnovers and 90 yards in penalties Ridgway improved to 7-1. The win sets up a showdown with 7-1 Brookville Friday night in Johnsonburg. A win and the Elkers are division champs. The loss eliminated 5-3 Karns City from a shot at the title.
It wasn’t easy and at times not pretty but the defending division and district champs prevailed with a four-down defensive stance that ended with 14 seconds left in the game with the Gremlins at the Ridgway 11 yard line.
