St. Marys Baseball scored in four of the six innings played in a 10-0, 6-inning win over Ridgway Monday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recreational Park. St. Marys was off to a fast start as Mitchell Meyer hit a home run to left with the first at bat of the game to put the Dutch up 1-0. Dalton Kline walked and Branden Tyger doubled to right field to score Kline for a 2-0 St. Marys lead. Brandon Vollmer then walked, stole second and scored on a Ridgway infield error on a ball hit by Justin Beimel to put the Dutch ahead 3-0 with no one out. Ridgway starting pitcher Josh Mitchell was able to keep the inning from growing any larger by striking out the next three hitters. Mitchell finished with nine strikeouts for Ridgway and had eight of the first nine outs via the punchout. Vollmer led off the third inning with a walk and then stole second. After Mitchell struck out the next two hitters, Quinn Cunningham singled home Vollmer for a 4-0 lead. The Dutch added another run in the fifth inning. St. Marys initially loaded the bases as Beimel led off with a walk and Robert Watts along with Rudy Gleixner hit consecutive singles. After a flyout to shortstop, Jerri Newell hit a sacrifice fly to score Beimel and put the Dutch up 5-0. Mitchell was able to get a flyout to right field to end the inning. St. Marys doubled the lead in the sixth inning due to patience at the plate. Kline walked, then stole second and took third after the throw to second went into the outfield. Tyger walked and Vollmer popped out to second. Beimel walked to load the bases. Ridgway committed an error on a ball hit by Watts which allowed Kline to score St. Marys' sixth run. Gleixner walked with the bases still juiced which allowed Tyger to trot home. Cunningham hit into a fielder's choice, a forceout to home which took Beimel off the bases. Newell walked to bring Watts to the dish and Meyer singled to score Gleixner from third. Kline walked to score Cunningham for the game's 10th run. Ridgway had a runner reach base in every inning but could not get much consistency or a timely hit to score runs. The Elkers had 2-out rallies in the third and fourth innings but left two runners on each time. In the third, Ben MacDonald singled with a pair out and Mitchell walked. Newell was able to end the inning with a strikeout in the third which extinguished the threat. In the fourth inning, Luke Pierce and Jesse Reynolds notched consecutive singles with a pair out but again Newell closed the inning out with a strikeout. Zac McKnight led off the sixth with a single and Mike Sorge reached with a walk with two away. Newell closed the game with his seventh total strikeout. Newell gave up four hits and walked two in a complete game shutout for St. Marys. Meyer was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Kline and Tyger each scored a pair of runs to lead the Dutch.
