Elkers down Gators

Ridgway boys basketball won 56-19 over Port Allegany in action Friday night at Ridgway Area High School. With an 8-5 lead near the midway point of the first quarter, Ridgway would begin to take control of the game with a 13-2 run to close the first quarter. Josh Roselli added a field goal before teammate Ben MacDonald would converter a 3-point play for a 13-5 Ridgway lead. Roselli would then add a transition bucket before assisting Tony Leithner on a basket. After a Logan Stuckey field goal for the Gators, MacDonald added another basket and Leithner would hit two free throws as Ridgway led 21-7 after the first quarter. "We know Port's a little shorthanded there," Ridgway coach Anthony Allegretto said. "I think they've only had four, maybe five practices. They played one game. We wanted to come out fast and get a big lead. Port started pretty well there. Then we figured out some of the stuff we were doing, started getting some turnovers. Sam (Roselli) played well inside. Josh, Sam, Tony Leithner rebounded and were controlling the boards."Rickie Bova opened the second quarter with a field goal for the Gators before Robbie Byrd would covert a 3-point play. Bova hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key as Port Allegany was hanging around down 24-12 near the 6-minute mark of the second quarter. From there, Ridgway would score the next 13 points to take a 25-point lead near halftime. Senior guard Jesse Reynolds jumpstarted the run with six straight points before a Roselli trey pushed the lead past 20 at 33-12.
