Dr. David Quinn Steele

Dr. David Quinn Steele, age 85, of Glen Hazel Road in Wilcox, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at U.P.M.C.-Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.He was born Oct. 20, 1926 in Pittsburgh to Dr. Paul B. and Anne McNeill Steele.On May 2, 1958, he married Lorraine "Lorry" Harrison, she survives.He attended the Awakening Alliance Church in Ridgway. Dr. Steele was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting, canoeing, skiing and hiking and traveling. He also loved hockey and football. He was an avid reader and a strong Christian man who was very generous and humble. He was a graduate of Shady Side Academy, Yale University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was a member of Diplomat American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Steele was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain. Dr. Steele was an Orthopedic Surgeon for over 55 years, spending most of that time in Pittsburgh in practice with his father and brother at Allegheny General and Divine Providence Hospitals, and doctoring for the last 18 years locally at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys.From 1967 to 1971, he served as the team physician for the Pittsburgh Penguins and from 1972 to 1986 he and his brother, Dr. Paul B. Steele Jr., served as the team physicians for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is survived by his wife, Lorry Steele of Wilcox; three sons, David Quinn (Sandra) Steele Jr. of Argentina; William Scott (Valeria) Steele III of St. Marys; and Charles Ward (Christy) Steele, also of St. Marys.He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Paul B. Steele Jr. There will be no public visitation. A Memorial Service for Dr. David Quinn Steele will be held on Friday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at the Awakening Alliance Church in Ridgway, with Pastor Don Hunter and Pastor John Smith officiating. Burial will take place at Wildwood Cemetery in Brockway. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
