DEP approves water sales agreement

JOHNSONBURG – The Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] approved a water sales agreement for the Johnsonburg Municipal Authority to sell water to the Hunt Marcellus Operating Company.Municipal authority member Ed Gapinski attended Monday's Johnsonburg Borough Council meeting to update the council on the approval."We finally had the blessed event," Gapinski said. "They [DEP] gave us approval to sell our water at 157,000 gallons of water per day to Hunt."According to Gapinski, the Hunt Marcellus Operating Company has already requested 300,000 gallons of water a day, but the municipal authority will not be able to provide the 300,000 gallons until a pressure reducing vault is installed along West Center Street."We had a snag already, but we are looking at mid-August to the end of the third week until it should be up and running," Gapinski said."Hunt already submitted their application for the permit, so we are at their mercy," Gapinski said. "They came up Friday and we had approval this morning. That was quite a shock to the system. Yes, there are a few snags attached to it, but other than that we got rid of our trucks and everything else is running good."Pick up a copy of the Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 edition of The Ridgway Record for more.Next meetingJohnsonburg Borough CouncilMonday, Sept. 124 p.m.Borough Office Building
