Consistency name of the game for Ridgway Lady Elkers golf

With two seniors and three underclassmen, Ridgway girls varsity golf coach Gary Gerber II will be looking for consistency and improvement on the links this year."For the underclassmen, they're younger golfers so you're looking for some improvement throughout the season," Gerber said. "Some of them worked on their game during the summer and some of them didn't. "You hope for improvement every week and one player also plays softball, so I've seen her swing there, and I don't want to really change her habits too much because I might screw her up for softball. Either way, she hits the ball a ton we just have to work on accuracy."Seniors Brittanei Neubert and Selena Scarnati will be complemented this year by returning underclassmen Christine Schauer and Sarah Szczotka, and newcomer Sierra Kos."Looking ahead, we're just looking for consistency, just doing the same thing over and over again," Gerber said. "They've been driving the ball well, it just comes down to the short game around the green. With putting, you usually get better and better but it was pretty much a mix of rain and snow last year at the district championship at Bavarian Hills so there wasn't a whole lot we could do. "That's a shorter course and the two seniors are longer hitters but the weather took its toll. This year, we're looking for bigger and better things."During preseason practice sessions, the team addressed short game issues and accuracy from tee to green."For drills, we've been on the practice green and putting from the edge of a square, trying to chip into a square, things like that," Gerber said. "We look forward to the season and a lot of schools have graduated their top players so we're hoping to be able to make a run here this season."
