Catherine Mary (Verbeck) Piccirillo

Catherine Mary (Verbeck) Piccirillo, 96, a resident of Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys (formerly of Ridgway), died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011. She was born March 5, 1914 in Medix Run, Benezette Township, the daughter of Adiel and Mary (Lynch) Verbeck. At an early age she moved to Ridgway with her family. On Jan. 5, 1931 she married Clyde Piccirillo, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1977.Over the years, Mrs. Piccirillo was employed at the Strand Theatre, the Elliott Co., Brockway Glass, the original Keystone Hardware, the Ideal Drive In Theatre in Kane, and the Children's Shop in Ridgway. Mrs. Piccirillo was very active in volunteer work, including as a volunteer manager of the St. Leo Cemetery for over 40 years, driving for the Meals on Wheels program, and as a CCD Teacher and collection counter at St. Leo Church. She was also active for many years at the Ridgway Senior Center. She was an avid reader and visited the Ridgway Public Library weekly for many years and enjoyed doing needlepoint, playing bingo and working word puzzles. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and a 69-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She is survived by a daughter, Anne Marie Sette and her husband Patsy of Erie; two sons, Joseph C. Piccirillo and his wife Maxine of Ridgway, and Donald Piccirillo and his wife Carnith of Ridgway; a sister, Bertha Verbeck of Ridgway; three brothers, Walter Verbeck and his wife LaVerne of Parma, Ohio, John Verbeck and his wife Mary of Perrysville, Md., and James Verbeck of Ridgway; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Verbeck of Ridgway and Armine Piccirillo of St. Marys; eight grandchildren, Diane Brown and her husband James of New Martinsville, W.V., Dennis Piccirillo and his wife Marjorie of Ridgway, Dale Piccirillo and his wife Mara of Ashtabula, Ohio, Darlene Coder and her husband Jason of Ridgway, Denise Hribik and her husband Joseph of Ridgway, Debra Warner and her husband Steven of Great Falls, Va., Donna Bundy and her husband Daniel of Ridgway, and Deana Wittman and her husband John of St. Marys; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Dennis, Thomas and Gerard Verbeck; a sister, Regina Verbeck; and a granddaughter, JoAnne Marie Piccirillo. Due to renovations at St. Leo Church, a Mass of Christian Burial and Committal for Catherine M. Piccirillo will be celebrated at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Kersey on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Fr. Brian E. Vossler, pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Leo Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home, 136 Center St., Ridgway, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. A wake service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 7:45 p.m. Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Ridgway Public Library, 329 Center St., Ridgway, PA 15853; or to St. Leo School, Depot St., Ridgway, PA 15853.
