Caggiano passes 100 wins

Ridgway senior Kyle Caggiano recently passed the 100-win milestone for his career. Caggiano won his 100th match at the Clearfield Duals last Saturday in the dual against Clearfield. He wrestled at 170 pounds and won a 19-1 technical fall in 5:58 over Kody Hepfer. “It was great, I liked it,” Caggiano said. “It was exciting to get it. It ended up being a tech fall in our last match against Clearfield. It was pretty exciting.”Caggiano came into the 2011-2012 season with a career record of 79-38. After a 22-15 record his freshman season, Caggiano bumped up the mark to 24-15 a year later. Caggiano surged his junior year with a 33-8 mark. He is a 3-time regional qualifier.“I knew I was going to get it this year at some time,” Caggiano said. “I didn’t know exactly when. That was the earliest I could get it.”Caggiano has kept up his stellar wrestling this season with a 22-1 record as of Wednesday. Corey Bush and Jake Himes are the only wrestlers with more wins this season, they both have 23. “It’s out of the way now and I can just wrestle and keep plugging away,” Caggiano said. Caggiano has also bumped up to wrestle opponents at heavier weight classes this season, going up to 182 pounds for a wrestler listed at 160 pounds at the start of the season. Caggiano doesn’t mind the challenge of wrestling heavier opponents and said he does it for the team. “I’m just doing it for the team and trying to help out,” Caggiano said. “It’s not too bad. I do whatever I can for the team. It’s team first.”
