Bush caps off milestone weekend with state berth

SHARON – Ridgway junior Corey Bush captured both his 100th win and a second trip to the PIAA Individual Wrestling Championships with his third-place finish at 119 pounds. Bush won 18-2 in a technical fall over Nick Hart of Cambridge Springs to reach his 100th win, then he capped off the weekend with a win in the third-place bout to move on to states. Bush hoped he would have had the win in the semifinals but is happy to move on. Bush won a regional championship at 103 pounds last year. “I wish I would have done it a couple wins earlier instead of in the consolations,” Bush said. “It’s nice to win the tournament but the main goal is to move on. Nice to get both in the same weekend.”Bush and fellow Ridgway wrestler D.J. Skraba both picked up their 100th wins at regionals last weekend. “That’s pretty cool how we both got it around the same time,” Bush said. Bush is 34-3 on the season and now faces Nate Giorgio of Schuylkill Valley (39-4) in the first round Thursday. He currently has a career record of 101-16. He said he is hoping to get healthy and wrestle better at the state tournament. Ridgway wrestling head coach Gary Gerber said he was impressed with Bush accomplishing the feat while ill.“For him to get his 100th win considering how sick he was this weekend, I don’t know how he did it,” Gerber said.Bush was fourth at the state tournament at 103 pounds in 2010.
