Mildred A. Cassels, 94, of 16678 Boot Jack Rd., Ridgway, died Saturday evening, Oct. 23, 2010, at the DuBois Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 26, 1916 in Weedville, daughter of the late Henry B. and Lottie M. (McClintick) Wheeler.
She married William (Lorriane) Cassels on Nov. 26, 1935 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1994.
She had resided in Ridgway since 1964 and was a former Spring Run and Weedville resident. She was a member of the Wesleyn Methodist Church, the Bennetts Valley Senior Citizens, the PTA and the Crazy 8 Card Club. She had been employed by Stackpole, Sylvania and at the elementary school cafeteria in Weedville.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald L. Cassels and his wife Darlene of St. Marys and Ronald T. (Ted) Cassels and his significant other Joanne Mahaney of Ridgway; a daughter, Beverly E. Gribbin and her husband Edward of Orange Park, Fla.; five grandchildren, Ronda, David, Bill, Steve and Alisha; a step-grandchild, Jackie; six great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; a half sister, Virginia McClintick of Penfield; a half brother, Burton Wheeler and his wife Maxine of Gardner Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Clifford and Merland Wheeler and four sisters, Viola Wonderling, MyraNell Kimm, Jean Alsbaugh and Zelda Wheeler in infancy.
Funeral and Committal Services for the late Mildred A. Cassels will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, Ridgway, on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be James Kitelinger, Minister of the Ridgway Church of Christ.
Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends will be received at the funreral home on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorials, if desired, can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
