Richard M. Johnson, 83, formerly of 259 Monterey Ave., Ridgway, died Monday morning, April 28, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 27, 1930 in Ridgway, son of the late Arthur R. and Thelma M. (Layberger) Johnson. He was married to Shirley A. Leuschel, who preceded him in death on March 21, 1991.
He resided in Ridgway all his life and was a graduate of the Ridgway High School. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He had served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed by Keystone Carbon for 30 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Laura A. Farcus and her husband Gary of Punxsutawney, and Janet Gaio and her husband Robert of Ridgway; one son, Arthur R. Johnson and his wife Christine of Ft. Mill, S.C.; four grandchildren, Jill Gaio, Nickolas Gaio, Maxwell Johnson and Jonathan Farcus; one sister, Phyliss Lain of Westtown, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Gary Farcus Jr.
Funeral and committal services for Richard M. Johnson will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 30 at 2 p.m. with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be Rev. Roger A. Peterson, Pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery
Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the service begins at 2 p.m.
