Karl R. Bjorkquist, 60, of 302 Madison Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly Monday morning, Feb. 17, 2014 at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born April 7, 1953 in Ridgway, son of the late Robert W. and Helen R. (Knouse) Bjorkquist. On Oct. 3, 1981, he married Theresa M. Caggeso who survives.
He had resided in Ridgway all his life and was a 1971 graduate of Ridgway Area High School. Karl was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was a past caretaker of the church. He was a retired member of the Ridgway Fire Department – Capital City, a past president of the Ridgway Football Boosters and a little league coach.
He liked working with his hands and was an avid handyman. He enjoyed baseball, especially the Pirates. He also liked Steeler football. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
He had been employed by Quality Components for 20 years, worked at Motion Control for two years and had been working at Metaldyne Industries for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa M. Caggeso Bjorkquist of Ridgway; two sons, Brian R. Bjorkquist and Daniel L. Bjorkquist, both of Ridgway; one daughter, Megan L. Buehler and her husband Justin of Ridgway; two grandchildren, Emory and Ava Buehler; one sister, Donna Bjorkquist of Ridgway; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Kasmierski; and one brother, James Bjorkquist.
Funeral and committal services for Karl R. Bjorkquist will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgway on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Erik Hart, Pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Ridgway Fire Department or to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
