Magdalene Mary "Maggie" Casolo, 92, of Elk Haven Nursing Home, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 27, 2010, at her residence.
She was born April 17, 1918, in Byrnedale, the daughter of the late John and Mary Holjencin Liptak.
On Nov. 5, 1938, in St. Joseph’s Church in Force, she married Severin (Kebe) Casolo, who predeceased her on July 16, 1983.
Formerly of Hill Street, Ridgway, she had lived in Ridgway for most of her life. She was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and was employed by Sylvania in Emporium for more than 30 years. She volunteered at the Thrift Shop and St. Leo’s Bingo for many years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning – but most of all, she enjoyed sharing these efforts with others.
She is survived by her daughters, Jean (Edward) Marchok of Latrobe and Mary (Dale) Wilson of West Henrietta, N.Y.; a son, James (Bonnie) Casolo of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a son-in-law, James Caribardi of Johnsonburg; a sister, Helen Herbstritt of St. Marys; eight grandchildren, Stephen Wilson, Sharon Stefano, Janice Ryan, Thomas Marchok, Judy Allegretto, Donald Caribardi, Corinne Klein, Bradley Casolo; 17 great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Caribardi; a sister, Mary Bianco; and by seven brothers, John, Stephen, Joseph, Louis, Fred, George, and William Liptak.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Magdalene Casolo will be celebrated at St. Leo’s Catholic Church on Monday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. Celebrating will be Fr. Brian Vossler, pastor. Committal will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home, Ridgway, on Sunday, Oct. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m.
