Floyd G. Jovenitti, 88, of 102 Sweeney St., St. Marys, died at his home on his 88th birthday, Dec. 5, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Paolo Mauro and Julia Carmella Marrone Jovenitti. On June 24, 1947, in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Marie Cecilia Bianco, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School. He had also attended college in Florida.
Floyd served in WWII in the European Theater of Operation. Upon return from service, Floyd worked for the Johnsonburg Paper Mill and other local businesses. In the late 1950s, Floyd became a Metropolitan Life Insurance Company agent and manager. He retired in 1985. He and his wife “Ceil” were heavily involved in many volunteer activities and were known for playing music for many nursing homes and senior citizen centers in the area. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, where he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. In his early years, he was an active member of the Holy Rosary Church.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by three daughters, Julianne Cullen of Johnsonburg, Valerie Biel of St. Marys, and Mary Wilson and her husband John of Janeville, Wisc.; a son, Paul T. Jovenitti of Glen Hazel; three grandchildren, Sheila Cullen Woltering of Annapolis, Md., Dawn Wilson Brown of Bozeman, Mont., and Jackie Wilson of Janeville, Wisc.; and one great-grandchild, Ingrid Brown of Bozeman, Mont.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lena McGrath, Albina Servidea, and Margaret DiProspero; and five brothers, Louis, Agustine, Umbert, Anthony “Babe”, and Louis Jovenitti, who died at birth. He was the last member of his immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Floyd G. Jovenitti will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, from 2-5 p.m.
