Nancy Lee Gess, age 64, of 807 North Broad St., Ridgway, died early Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at UPMC Hamot Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 10, 1949 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Jasper M. and Erma E. (Tobias) Vantassel. She married Veryl B. Gess on Sept. 17, 1966; he survives.
She had resided in Ridgway all of her life and was Protestant by faith. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed ceramics, camping and boating. She had been employed by the YMCA for several years and had also sold Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Aside from her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Annette Hulings of Ridgway; one son, Bruce Gess of Ridgway; two granddaughters, Randi Hulings and Aliannah Gess of Ridgway; one great-grandson, Elijah Gadley; one sister, Geraldine Douds of Brandy Camp; one step-sister, Cherry Sheets of Sigel; three brothers, Jasper M. Vantassel Jr. in Georgia, Ed Vantassel and his wife, Dawn, of James City, and Kenneth E. Vantassel of Ridgway, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Randy Hulings.
Funeral and committal services for Nancy Lee Gess will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 5. at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Miller, pastor of the Ridgway Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 4 from 5-8 p.m. Memorials if desired can be made to the Ridgway YMCA.
