Lester Edward Schott, age 89, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Canton Regency Nursing Home in Canton, Ohio where he had been a resident for a short time.
He was born Feb. 25, 1924 in Johnsonburg, the son of Edward David and Emma (Riekofski) Schott.
Lester served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 328th Engineer Combat Battalion of the 103rd Infantry Division, being stationed in the European Theatre. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Lester was a testing technician with Westinghouse Electric Co. in Sharon for 10 years and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1956. In 1958, he began working as an electrical engineer for the Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where he retired after 29 years. He was an active member of the Memorial United Presbyterian Church and a dedicated Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed playing cards, reading and high school football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 62 years, Mary E. (Shontz) Schott; a daughter, Nancy Elin Phillippo; and brothers Frederick John, Alvin Earl and Clarence Ralph Schott.
He is survived by his children: Leslie Schott of Toledo, Ohio; Paul (Susan) Schott of Garden City, N.Y.; Alan (Sandra) Schott of Columbus, Ohio; and Marvin (Carol) Schott of North Canton, Ohio; a son-in-law, Carl Phillippo; nine grandchildren, Elin Schott; Kurt and Scott Phillippo; Simon and Caitlin Schott; Andrew and Maggie Law; Mary Vivian and Christian Schott; and nephews Tom (Ginny) Schott and Jack (Cathy) Schott; as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013 at Memorial United Presbyterian Church, 343 Ankeney Mill Rd., Xenia with Rev. R. Michael Helling officiating.
