Donald G. Olson, 91, of 315 Jackson Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013, at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born March 19, 1921 in Ridgway, son of the late Fritz and Molly (Nelson) Olson.
He married Martha E. Miller on Sept. 14, 1946 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Marys, with Fr. Henry officiating.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a 1938 graduate of the Ridgway High School. He was a member of the Ridgway Elks Club, and a past member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII.
He had been the owner and operator of Court Service in Ridgway for 32 years.
In addition to his wife, Martha E. Olson of Ridgway, he is survived by a son, Donald F. Olson of Warsaw, Ind.; four daughters, Georgia A. LaValle and her husband Edward of Ridgway, Peggy M. Tague and her husband Tom of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Janice C. Wolff and her husband Bob of Selinsgrove, and Carol J. Stafford of Ridgway; 10 grandchildren, Chris LaValle and his wife Gina, Michelle LaValle-Denk and her husband Denny, Cindy Stafford and her fiancee Tim McCormick, Mike Stafford, Chad Tague, Molly Tague, Aaron Wolff, Elsie Wolff, Emily Wolff, and Patrick Olson; four great-grandchildren, Edison, Ethan, Duncan, and Elric LaValle; and four step-great-grandchildren, Desiree Croteau, Max Croteau, Dennis Denk, and Jeremy Denk; and a nephew.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul E. Olson; a sister, Bernice E. Olson; and a great-grandson, Hayden LaValle.
Funeral and committal services for Donald G. Olson will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be the Rev. Craig W. Duffield, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
