Jerome J. Cavalline, 71, of 324 Ash St., St. Marys, died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at the Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born March 19, 1941 in Coal Hollow, son of the late Louis P. and Marie Malone Cavalline. On Sept. 26, 1986, in the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Wilcox, he married Julie A. Johnson, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1959. He was a former employee of the Stackpole Carbon Co., Speer Carbon, Elk Regional Health Center, and was also a former bus driver.
Mr. Cavalline was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, served for 46 years as a volunteer fireman with the Crystal Fire Department, served 11 years with the Pa. National Guard, and served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961. He was certified as an EMT instructor, AMA instructor, American Red Cross instructor, Advanced First Aid instructor, and Assistant Pa. State Fire School instructor. At the Crystal Fire Department, he served as fireman, captain, lieutenant, secretary, parade chairman, picnic chairman, and fire police. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking, hunting, and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tracy McDonald and her husband Joseph of Oil City and Jamie Cavalline of St. Marys; two sons, John Cavalline and his wife Darcy of Manlius, N.Y., and Aaron Cavalline and his wife Sarah of Erie; 11 grandchildren, Isabella, Talia, Victoria, Christina, Alyson, Tessa, Sydney, Makenzie, Gianna, Sawyer, and Megan; two sisters, Karen Verbeck and her fiance John "Yogi" Lang of Kersey, and Denise Sago and her husband James of Kersey; and a brother, Richard Cavalline and his wife Jeanne of St. Marys.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome J. Cavalline will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Monday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m.
