KANE – Ridgway boys golf won its first road match of the season with a 201-246 win over Kane Thursday afternoon on the back nine of Kane Country Club.
Jake Klawuhn and Mitchell Gilmore were co-medalists with scores of 39 for the Elkers. Ridgway coach Dave Zawatski said he was impressed with both efforts from Klawuhn and Gilmore.
"Jake Klawuhn struggled during the first two matches at home and was close to losing his spot in the starting lineup," Zawatski said. "Going to Kane and playing the back nine in 39 when things haven't been going his way says a great deal about the young man."
Zawatski said Gilmore has been consistently solid for the team.
"A nice effort in our first away match," Zawatski said. "Mitchell Gilmore continues to play very solid golf for us."
Josh Roselli, Jesse Reynolds and T.J. Schlimm each finished with cards of 41 for Ridgway to round out their top five.
Josh Mitchell had a 42 while Matt Aiello finished at 45. Mitchell Stark carded a 47 for the Elkers.
Jamie Rook led Kane with a 43. Austin Woolcock carded a 47 and Trace Gordon finished up with a 49. Austin Hoag had a 53 and Dan Park rounded out Kane's scoring with a 54.
Zawatski said the team can improve but is happy with the team's score at Kane.
"The coaches are pleased with a 201 but there is still a lot of room for improvement," Zawatski said.
Ridgway is scheduled to host Bradford next Tuesday.
