The Ridgway minor league all-stars lost Game 1 of the District 10 North/South championship series by a 14-3 margin in five innings to Brookville Friday night at the Ridgway Little league fields.
Brookville was spurred on by 7-run innings in the third and fifth innings to take the 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series which will determine the District 10 minor league champion. Game 2 is scheduled for 4 p.m. this afternoon in Brookville. If Ridgway wins Game 2, Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday with information to be announced.
Ridgway scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings.
Ridgway led 1-0 entering the third inning when Brookville started stringing hits together. Shortstop Seth Dunkle tripled to opened the inning and he scored as Second baseman Kyle Macbeth was able to hit a ball down the first base line which would remain fair for an infield single. First baseman Jack Krug would also hustle for an infield single which would plate Macbeth for a 2-1 Brookville lead. Pitcher Aaron Park reached on a 6-4 fielder's choice before right fielder Logan Byerly singled Park home for Brookville's third run. After a strikeout, center fielder Cole LaBenne singled to score Byerly. Catcher David Cable reached on a Ridgway error which allowed LaBenne to score for a 5-1 lead. Dunkle then laced his second extra base hit of the inning as he doubled home both Cable and left fielder Bruce Kunselman for a 7-1 lead.
Left fielder Jake Wickett led off the fourth with a walk. Catcher Greg Simon hit into a fielder's choice to second, he would eventually score on a wild pitch for Ridgway's second run.
Brookville then added another 7-run inning in the fifth inning. Dunkle continued his hitting tear for Brookville as he roped a 2-run single which scored LaBenne and Cable. Dunkle was 3 for 4 with four RBI, a double and a triple as the leadoff hitter for Brookville. Dunkle's 2-run single was followed by a 2-run double from Macbeth which scored Kunselman and Byerly. Krug reached on an error which scored Macbeth. Krug would score on an RBI single from Park. Park would score on an error after a stolen base.
Ridgway added a run in the bottom of the fifth. Haydn Yeager led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout. He would eventually score on a wild pitch for Ridgway's third run.
Ridgway opened the scoring in the second inning as first baseman Paul Gresco reached on a 1-out walk. After second baseman Jack Cowan also walked, they both moved up on a wild pitch. Gresco would score on another wild pitch as Ridgway took a 1-0 lead.
Yeager, Cowan and Wickett recorded singles for Ridgway. Park finished with six strikeouts for Brookville.
