Mary E. “Betty” McAlee, 92, of The Lutheran Home, Kane, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the home after a short illness.
She was born March 17, 1920 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Jonah and Annie (Williams) Davies.
On July 15, 1941, she married Peter “Woots” McAlee. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1999.
Mrs. McAlee lived most of her life in Johnsonburg and the past eight years in Kane. She was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1938. She worked for 16 years as a caterer with “DeLong & McAlee Catering” and retired in 1982 after 10 years as Cafeteria Manager for Johnsonburg Area schools. A member of the Kane United Methodist Church and Johnsonburg Senior Center, she was a past member of the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star and Johnsonburg Women’s Club.
She is survived by a son, John W. (Sue) McAlee of Kane; three grandchildren, Cassie, Jonathan and Kyle McAlee; three great-grandchildren, Wesley, Maggie and her twin, Macy Elms; two nephews, Richard DeLong and Jules (Lyn) Bacha; a niece, Jo Ann (Paul) Gnan; and many great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, David McAlee; two brothers, William and Albert Davies; four sisters, Margaret Vorhees Calhoun, Ruth Wise, Gertrude Bacha and Lavina DeLong; and one niece, Jenny DeLong.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services for Mary E. "Betty" McAlee will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, with Pastor William R. LaVelle Sr. officiating. Burial will take place at Wardvale Methodist Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 27 from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
