ST. MARYS – Work to improve a section of state Route 255 in St. Marys and Fox Township that began the first week of June is continuing on schedule, according to Marla Fannin, community relations coordinator for the Pennsylvania State Department of Transportation's District 2, based in Clearfield.
Fannin said although some complaints were received last week regarding congestion at the traffic light at Walmart SuperCenter in Fox Township, that issue has been resolved.
"We have made some adjustments there, so that should improve that movement there at that intersection," Fannin said. "We believe we've alleviated that to some degree."
The section of roadway under construction runs from the SR 948 intersection in Fox Township to Tractor Supply in St. Marys. Work in progress includes concrete repair, paving, the installation of overhead signage, drainage improvements, addition of concrete curbing, guide rail updates and pavement markings.
The goal of the project is to make travel along the section smoother and more efficient, Fannin said. She encouraged motorists to be alert for changes in traffic patterns, as work will progress from lane to lane on the four-lane highway. One lane northbound and one lane southbound will remain open; when one lane is completed, it will be re-opened to traffic and another lane will close so crews can continue improvement work.
