JOHNSONBURG – Following a recommendation from the Johnsonburg Fire Department the Johnsonburg Borough Council approved a resolution to designate the St. Marys Area Ambulance Service as the primary provider of emergency services in Johnsonburg.
Prior to the meeting, a three-man committee was formed consisting of council members James DeAngelo, James R. DePanfilis and Ronald King to review outside ambulance service providers.
"We met with various people in the area concerning the ambulance and we asked both Ridgway [Ambulance Service] and St. Marys [Ambulance Service] to send in a report on what they would offer Johnsonburg," DeAngelo said. "Basically, after looking it over we didn't find where there wasn't much of a difference in what was offered by either ambulance service. We talked it over and felt that at this point in time we would recommend that the borough go with the fire department's recommendation, which was the St. Marys Ambulance Service."
According to Borough Solicitor Elizabeth Feronti the resolution will take effect in July.
"We are going to accept St. Marys Ambulance Service for ALS [advanced life support] and BLS [basic life support]," Feronti said. "I want to make everyone aware we are not excluding the QRS [quick response service]. The borough is going to enter into a resolution with regard to the basic life support and the advanced life support and the QRS will still be provided. It's just going to be upon agreement with the [Johnsonburg] fire department and whomever the borough appoints."
