Iva A. Fay, 101, formerly of 244 Spruce St., Ridgway, died Tuesday evening, May 1, 2012, at Highland View Health Care in Brockway. She was born February 5, 1911 in Bedford, Ohio, daughter of the late William and Esther (Holt) Atkin. She married John A. Fay in December of 1940, he preceded her in death in 1972. She had resided in Ridgway for 76 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgway. Iva was very active in her church and the community. She was a graduate of the Warren Harding High School in Warren, Ohio, a graduate of Oberlin College and had attended the University of Maryland. She had been employed by the Ridgway Area School District as a teacher before and during World War II, and then returned to teaching in 1962.
She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Phillips and her husband Richard of DuBois, Adrienne Johnson and her husband Gregg of Ridgway, Deborah McFarland and her husband Wayne of Voorhess, N.J.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Flath and Jane Ablondi both of Warren, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Bud Atkin.
Funeral and Committal Services for Iva A. Fay will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Cantaral, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgway. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
Memorials, if desired, can be made to Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility or to Highland View Health Care or to the Elk County Historical Society.
