Acting on a memo from Pam Cousins, the county's director of the Children & Youth department, Elk County Commissioners paid homage to a worthwhile group hailing from Wilcox during a board meeting Tuesday morning.
The Wilcox Presbyterian Women's Organization was praised for brightening the lives of some Elk County residents over the years. According to Cousins' documentation submitted to the commissioners for public presentation Tuesday, "For as long as I have been here and even before that, the women of their organization have sent us a check to meet the needs of struggling children and their families at Christmas. It appears that as an organization, they are coming to an end. Their faithfulness in helping meet the needs of the less fortunate children and families has spanned faithfully for more than 25 years."
"We commend the Wilcox Presbyterian Women's Organization and all the good that they have done," said Elk County Commissioner Daniel R. Freeburg. "It's a sad day that they have, due to lack of 'woman power,' that they are ceasing their operation. We certainly appreciate the good that they do, and have done."
Commissioners acknowledge Shirley Stanley and all the Presbyterian women who gave faithfully in helping with the needs of less fortunate children and families of Elk County.
