ST. MARYS - The 2nd Annual Elk County Catholic Alumni Spirit Night is set for Friday evening. This year's event is being held in conjunction with the much-anticipated ECC versus St. Marys Area boys' basketball game.
The cross-town rivals will meet at ECC this year and event organizers are encouraging alums to sport their alma mater's colors of maroon and gold to cheer the Crusaders. The junior varsity game is set for 6 p.m., with the varsity matchup tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
ECC alumni and friends are encouraged to keep the spirit up after the game at an adult gathering at the C.M.F. Grill Room, located at the corner of S. St. Marys and East Mill streets. Last year the event began around 9 p.m.
All alumni will receive a beverage ticket, with snacks and pizza provided for all in attendance. The free event is limited to those 21 years of age and older.
"We are moving the event up one month from last year," said Paula Fritz Eddy, a member of the ECC Alumni Association and the Spirit Night organizing committee. "We chose the ECC-SMA game because it is the best-attended alumni game."
Upon entering the game, alumni will receive a special type of paper from which they must construct a paper airplane. They will have a chance to toss the plane into a plastic baby pool located at center court during halftime of the varsity game. This promotion, known as "98 Jet Away Give Away", is being sponsored by The River 98.9 radio station for the second year in a row.
