JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Ridgway wrestling took second at the annual Jamestown Holiday Classic on Friday and Saturday.
Ridgway finished with a total of 163 team points and finished as the top team among Pennsylvania participants. Spencerport (N.Y.) was the overall winner with 216 points, the 14th time that school has won the event.
The Elkers had seven total placewinners which included one champion. Corey Bush took home the title at 126 pounds as he compiled a 5-0 record over the weekend. Bush had two technical falls and two pinfalls to reach the championship match where he won a 7-2 decision over Emory Rowe of Ripley, N.Y. It is Bush's fourth championship at the Jamestown Tournament.
Slade Horner was the 152-pound runner-up as he had a 4-1 record. Horner opened with two pins on Friday. On Saturday he had a 3-2 decision over Corey Voorhis of North East and a 5-4 decision over Kevin Nowakowski of Harbor Creek before losing a 3-1 decision to Stephen Maier of Spencerport.
Kyle Caggiano finished as the runner-up at 160 pounds, also compiling a 4-1 record. Caggiano opened with two straight technical fall victories, then added a pinfall. Caggiano won 8-2 over Zach Buckley of Fredonia, N.Y. (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) to reach the final but lost a 9-0 major decision to Ben Haas of Salamanca, N.Y.
Chad Quail finished third at 220 pounds as he had a 4-1 record. Quail opened with two straight pins before losing a 3-2 decision to Max Antone of Niagara Wheatfield, N.Y. (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) Quail then won two straight in the consolation bracket to take the third-place finish.
Steve Mitchell was fifth at 152 pounds as he had a 3-2 record. Mitchell won his first two matches before losing a pair of matches. Mitchell took fifth with a 4-3 decision over Jake Newara of Harbor Creek.
Jake Himes also took fifth at 170 as he finished with a 6-2 record. Himes was knocked to the consolation bracket in his second match because of what is listed as a disqualification but rattled off four straight wins. After a loss, Himes won the fifth-place match by a 3-0 score over Matt Booth of Cattaraugus, N.Y.
Zac McKnight was sixth at 138 pounds for the Elkers as he compiled a 4-3 record. McKnight won his first two matches via pinfall. After a defeat, McKnight won a 2-1 decision over Sebastian Rinehardt and had a pinfall victory over Josh Kita of Harbor Creek in 1:45. He lost an 11-10 decision to Matthew McCauley of Royalton Hartland, N.Y. (Middleport, N.Y.) and then was pinned in the fifth-place match.
Cody Stahl was 2-2 on the weekend at 113 and A.J. Oknefski was 0-2 at 120. Brett Himes went 3-2 at 132 pounds. Dalton Sheasley was 1-2 at 182 and Seth Stahl was 2-2 at 195. Chris Woods was 0-2 in the 285-pound weight class.
Ridgway returns to dual action on Tuesday when the Elkers (1-1) travel to take on Port Allegany. Junior high action starts at 6 p.m. with the varsity dual to follow. This will be the Gators' first dual of the season after a third-place finish at the Carbon City Kickoff Classic on Dec. 10.
