Douglas A. McClelland, 49, of 314 Vernon Ave., Ridgway, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 7, 2011, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born June 27, 1962 son of Kenneth H. and Patricia A. (Eckert) McClelland.
He married Kathryn (Kathy) A. Gray on Nov. 6, 2010 in the Hallton Church, she survives. He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a 1980 graduate of the Ridgway High School, also a graduate of the National Hardwood School in Memphis Tenn., and a graduate of the Blairsville Institute of Technology. He was a member of the Hallton Church, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Ridgway. He was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed geocaching, stone carving, watching old war movies, metal detecting, doing mechanics, auto-body repair, he was a jack of all trades. He especially enjoyed helping other people. He had served in the Army National Guard for 12 years. He had been employed by Domtar in Johnsonburg for 18 years.
Surviving besides his wife and parents are three sons, Joshua McClelland, Adam McClelland, and Ryan McClelland, all of Ridgway; three brothers, Rick McClelland and his wife Leann of St. Marys, Tom McClelland, and Jim McClelland, both of Ridgway; one sister, Christine Morelli and her husband Rocco of Davenport, Fla.; three nieces; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Charles and Veronica Eckert; and his paternal grandparents Preston and Mildred McClelland.
A Memorial Service for Douglas A. McClelland will be held at the Hallton Church on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Ronald L. Burkett, Pastor of the Hallton Church. Burial will be in Oakmont Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials if desired can be made to the Community Nurses, Inc. Hospice Program at 757 Johnsonburg Rd., St. Marys, PA 15857 or to the Ridgway Ambulance Corp. at 120 North Broad St., Ridgway, PA 15853.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.
